About Rewild My Garden
Our Purpose
At Rewild My Garden, we believe that every property — no matter the size — can support local wildlife and help bring back what’s being lost to expanding urban development.
As cities grow, many gardens have become simplified spaces with little value for nature. Our purpose is to help people reintroduce the right native plants, create wildlife habitat, and reconnect with the living world around them, right here in South East Queensland.
Rewilding doesn’t have to start in distant nature reserves.
It can start at home.
What We’re Working Towards
We focus on small, achievable actions that grow into something bigger.
By helping people rewild backyards, balconies, schoolyards, cafés, and community spaces, we create connected patches of habitat across our urban landscape. These patches allow wildlife to move more safely through suburbs and neighbourhoods.
As more gardens join in, birds, pollinators, reptiles, frogs, and insects begin to return, rebuilding biodiversity one patch at a time.
Why It Matters
Native plants have evolved alongside local wildlife for millions of years. Many insects, birds, and animals depend on specific plants for food, shelter, and breeding.
Today, habitat loss, invasive species, and climate pressures are placing enormous strain on wildlife — especially in urban areas.
By rewilding your garden, you can:
Provide food and shelter for local wildlife
Support declining pollinators and small woodland birds
Increase biodiversity and resilience in your local area
Help reconnect fragmented habitats across cities and suburbs
Every garden matters.
Even a single garden bed, balcony, or pot can become a stepping stone for wildlife.

About the Founder
Hi, I’m Aimee, the founder of Rewild My Garden.
As I drive around South East Queensland, I often notice how much space there is for nature — and how little of it is being used. Lawns stretch on, new developments appear, and many gardens are filled with plants that look nice but don’t offer much for wildlife.
For a long time, I kept coming back to one thought:
what if our everyday gardens could do more?
The term “native plants” is used a lot, but it’s also very broad. Many people don’t realise how incredibly diverse our local native plants are, or that many plants sold as “native” actually come from other regions. While they may be Australian, they don’t always support the wildlife that belongs here.
South East Queensland is one of the most biodiverse regions in the country — and yet much of that richness is missing from our suburbs.
Rewild My Garden grew from a desire to gently change that. To bring local plants back into everyday spaces, and in doing so, help wildlife return too.
My background is in science, conservation, and environmental management, and through my studies and work I’ve seen how small, thoughtful actions can create meaningful change. You don’t need a perfect garden, a big block of land, or specialist knowledge — you just need a place to start.
My approach to rewilding is simple and nature-led:
care for the soil
support insects and pollinators
let healthy food webs rebuild over time
During my own gardening journey, I realised how hard it can be to find clear, locally relevant guidance on plants that truly support wildlife. Rewild My Garden was created to make that knowledge easier to access — and to make rewilding feel achievable, not overwhelming.
Every Biodiversity Box is thoughtfully designed to remove the guesswork, whether you’re planting your first garden bed, a few pots on a balcony, or a shared community space. The idea was also shaped by my university research project, Reconstructing Functioning Landscapes: A Case Study on Increasing Bird Species Richness within Brisbane’s Urban Landscape.
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
— Dr Jane Goodall
My hope is that Rewild My Garden helps people slow down, notice what’s living around them, and feel empowered to make a positive difference, right where they are.
The world can feel overwhelming and negative at times, but if we choose to think and act locally, small actions start to make real change. Planting a single local native species for wildlife may seem small, but when your neighbours do the same, suddenly a street becomes a wildlife corridor. That corridor can connect to other gardens, community spaces, and even local nature reserves, creating a network where birds, insects, and other wildlife can thrive and move safely in an urban landscape. Each small step builds momentum, and together, those steps create ripples that make a big difference.
